This project explores and appreciate the process of designing your own font. “Dalpto” combines several sources of inspiration such as modernist Wim Crouwel, grid work, and simplicity.
It currently consist of 32 characters – 26 small letters of the Latin alphabet and six punctuation elements. To break the grid certain blocks were removed and the sublte edges give it a soft look to the rigid structure.
The process of sketching, choice making, digitalising, and applying was a very inspiring and educational one – it takes time and depth to produce even the beginning of a font.
It was inspiring to follow my fellow students and their processes, too. Different ideas, characters, styles, and processes led to a wonderfully diverse picture at the end. Almost a symbol of the art academy!
